AFTER more than a quarter of a century, an event celebrating the magic of transport is under new leadership.

After 26 years of organising the Basingstoke Festival of Transport, The Thornycroft Society is handing the reins over to Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club.

Initially the two associations will work closely together to manage the annual show with the aim of handing over control to Basingstoke Deane Rotary.

This year's festival is be held on Sunday, 12 May at War Memorial Park, in Crossborough Hill, featuring more than 800 cars, buses, coaches, motorcycles, military vehicles, tractors and stationary engines.

The show is open from 11am to 4pm and admission is free.

Some 20,000 people attended the event last year.
