An elderly woman who was taken to hospital after a crash on the M25 yesterday has died.

An elderly man, also in his 80s, who was also seriously injured, remains in hospital following the collision at j20 near Kings Langley.

Hertfordshire Constabulary say four vehicles were involved including a Citroen C3, a blue Nissan Qashqai, a silver BMW 318d M Sport, and a white lorry.

The two elderly people were both travelling in the Citroen.

Officers were carrying out investigation work for seven hours yesterday, after emergency services, including two air ambulances were initially called just before midday.

The clockwise carriageway was shut between j19 and j21 while the anti-clockwise carriageway was also closed for a period of time, before two lanes were opened after screens were put up.

The M25 was fully reopened by 7.30pm

PC Neil Crosier, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the woman’s family who are being supported by specially-trained officers.

“If you saw the collision, or the events leading up to it, please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage of what happened. If you can help please contact me on the non-emergency number 101 or through email at neil.crosier@herts.pnn.police.uk, quoting ISR 290 of March 27.”
