A Wetherspoon pub has been put up for sale.

With its cheaper pints and popular food menu, you’d think business might be booming for the pub company.

But the Watford-based giants recorded an 18.9 per cent fall in profits to £50.3million in the first half of this financial year. Labour costs increased by about £33million.

Now, Wetherspoon has listed 16 of its pubs on the market - including The Pennsylvanian in Rickmansworth high street. But the pub will not be closing until a buyer is found.

A spokesman for Wetherspoon said: “We can confirm that The Pennsylvanian in Rickmansworth has been put up for sale.

“We totally understand that our loyal customers and staff will be disappointed with this decision. However, Wetherspoon, does on occasion, put some of its pubs up for sale. It is a commercial decision taken by the company taken after long consideration.

“The pub will continue to trade as normal until a buyer is found. We have told our staff that if the pub is sold and they do not transfer to the purchaser, then we would look to redeploy our employees at other Wetherspoon pubs in the region.”
