Volunteers are being requested to help in train stations along the Abbey Line.

The Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor visited one of the line’s stations in Garston to praise its ongoing commitments to community projects on March 21.

Called station adopters, volunteers are currently helping out with the maintenance of the building and undertaking work such as the installation of CCTV cameras or making the station overall nicer.

London North-western Railway (LNWR) the firm which run the line are asking for more people to join their team of volunteers.

On the day of the visit, the mayor along with one volunteer, David Nursaw, conducted a station check and a clean-up along with the other volunteers including Cllr Kareen Haastrick, representatives from Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership and staff from LNWR.

Mr Taylor said: “It was great to join volunteers today to find out more about what they do to help look after the stations along the Abbey Line in conjunction with the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership.

“This is a lifeline for people living in our town and it’s really important that we all work together to make sure it’s well used and well maintained.

“If you think you’re able to help look after your local station in Watford, please do get in touch.”

The Abbey Line runs between St Albans Abbey and Watford Junction, calling at Park Street, How Wood, Bricket Wood, Garston, and Watford North.
