More than 200 people turned out for a school's first ever charity fun run as teachers prepare to take on the London Marathon.

Staff, parents and pupils from Edge Grove school in Aldenham, as well as family members from the nearby community, were grateful for the spring sunshine at the end of March for the event. The special event was organised to raise money for a variety of charities that are being supported by the school’s marathon participants for 2019.

Headmaster of Edge Grove Ben Evans, along with teachers, Alastair Eglinton, Natalie Bonnick and Aoife Thompson are all set to take part in this year’s London Marathon on 28 April and were keen to give their fundraising an extra boost ahead of the big day.

Making use of the surroundings of Edge Grove Park, registered participants had the choice to run in either the 800m, 1,500m, or 2km races in aid of the four teacher’s chosen charities including Herts Community Foundation (Edge Grove’s partner charity), RNLI and Headlines, MacMillan and Waves.

Overwhelmed by the positive energy of the pupils, parents and staff, Mr Evans said: “The sun came out along with the ice-cream van and our first ever charity fun run was a huge success. The atmosphere was fantastic, full of camaraderie, fun and just a little competitive spirit. Plus, the support and commitment shown by our teaching staff was wonderful."

All participants received a medal upon crossing the finish line and the event also included a fun obstacle course for younger children and toddlers so that everyone could enter into the spirit of the afternoon.

The event raised over £800 for the charities.
