Three burglars in wigs broke into a home before they fled in a silver BMW at high speed.

It was nearly 2pm on Thursday March 28 when an alarm at a home in Newlands Avenue, Radlett, went off following a break-in.

Spooked by the alarm, three men ran from the house stealing two safes which contained cash and jewellery before jumping into a silver BMW 1 series which was being driven by a fourth suspect.

The BMW, which had a number plate ending in UYM, made off along Park Road towards Watling Street – the main route in and out of Radlett.

Police say the getaway vehicle began overtaking queueing traffic at speed.

Police officers attended the scene quickly but were unable to find any suspects.

The three men who were seen leaving the house and getting in the car are described as wearing either hoods or yellow builders’ hats. They were also wearing wigs.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who either saw the burglary or the BMW leaving Radlett.

Detective Inspector Michael Macbeth, from the Hertsmere local crime unit, said: “Did you see these men dressed distinctively? Or did you see the vehicle driving away from the scene? The vehicle was seen to be driving in an erratic manner, overtaking queuing vehicles, so it would have been very noticeable.
