Forensic police have been seen working at a hotel in North Watford – but the Metropolitan Police are not confirming at this stage whether it is linked to the abduction and rape of two women.

Officers have been at the Phoenix Lodge in St Albans Road for most of the morning. Police have reportedly been at the bed and breakfast since yesterday.

Phoenix Lodge is situated just yards from Osborne Road, the street where two women escaped from a vehicle on Thursday afternoon. The women were abducted in Chingford, Essex, at 12.30am on Thursday, and from a street in Edgware at 12.15pm the same day.

They were both taken to Watford.

Yesterday, the Met Police issued a CCTV appeal of a suspect and revealed that a man had tried to book a hotel room in Watford but was unsuccessful.

A source has told this newspaper that a man aged around 45, white, English, and bald, came to the Phoenix Lodge some time last week and paid £90 in cash for two nights but he never returned.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed the presence in St Albans Road is not connected to one of their investigations.
