A new post office will open later this month.

The branch is being relocated from its current site in Prestwick Road in South Oxhey to nearby Station Approach.

The new post office was scheduled to open on May 1 but this has been pushed back to May 28.

The new premises, which were empty, are undergoing a full refurbishment to incorporate a convenience store. There will be two Post Office counters alongside the retail counter.

It is moving due to the redevelopment of The Parade.

A spokeswoman for the post office said: “Prestwick Road Post Office will be delighted to welcome customers to relocated branch. Local residents and small business customers will be able to access a wide range of Post Office and mails services, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

“Other services include Post Office Card Account withdrawals, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, car tax renewal and customers can also pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.”

There is disabled parking available outside the new premises and a car park is available at the back of the new premises.

However there will be no cash machine at the new post office, but customers will still be able to get free cash withdrawals from the counters inside the shop.

Three Rivers Labour leader and South Oxhey ward councillor Steve Cox has described the news there will be no cash machine as a "loss to the community".

The nearest ATM is the one at Tesco Express a little further up the road.

The current post office will shut on May 25.

The nearest post office for anyone who needs to use the facilities on Monday May 26 is in Green Lane in Northwood.
