A football club which saw its facilities wrecked by vandals is in with a chance of winning a much needed cash prize.

Borehamwood 2000 FC were rocked in the summer after their facilities at Pursley Playing Fields in Shenley were destroyed.

Tiles were ripped from the roof, locks were broken, and the dug outs were ruined.

The club has been shortlisted in the final 12 of building merchants Selco ‘Selco Stars’ competition where they are in with a shout of winning £5,000.

Sandra Langham, fundraising secretary at Borehamwood 2000, said: “The £5,000 would make such a huge difference to the club.

“The £500 Selco has provided has enabled us to repair much of the damage the vandals caused but there is still so much more to do.

“Our changing rooms and toilets need revamping and that, as well as trying to attract even more youngsters into the sport, would be our main priority if we won the £5,000.

“Hopefully, everyone in and around Borehamwood will get behind us by voting.”

Carine Jessamine, marketing director at Selco, added: “We were inundated with applicants from a host of good causes with outstanding credentials so Borehamwood 2000 has done extremely well to be shortlisted.

“It does excellent work in the community and hopefully the whole of Borehamwood will get behind the football club in its quest to win an amount of money which would make a huge difference to the work it does.”
