A homeless charity has been awarded 1,000 after it was nominated by members of the Borehamwood community.

Herts Young Homeless has been awarded the cash from Taylor Wimpey after being announced as the winner of the homebuilder’s community donation competition.

Residents from in and around Borehamwood were invited to vote for a good cause to receive a helping hand and Herts Young Homeless received the most nominations.

Herts Young Homeless is an independent charity which was established in 1998 and is dedicated to supporting the young homeless of Borehamwood and other areas of Hertfordshire. The charity primarily helps 16 to 24 year olds who are homeless or are threatened with homelessness through free support services as well as emergency accommodation. They also work with children as young as ten who are dealing with family conflict and adults who have mental ill health and housing issues.

Borehamwood Times:

Helen Elliot, chief executive at Herts Young Homeless, said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support of Taylor Wimpey and it was lovely to find out that we had received the most votes from the local community. We are always grateful for any extra funding we receive and the donation will go towards helping us prevent youth homelessness in Hertfordshire through a variety of services including education.

"It will allow us to continue to make a difference to young people and help them build a better future.”
