WATFORD'S first elected mayor is Liberal Democrat Dorothy Thornhill.
She swept to victory after second choice votes were counted and won by a massive margin of more than 8,000.
She polled 13,473 in the combined total, trouncing Labour candidate Vince Muspratt who netted 5,269 in total.
Speaking after the result was announced, Ms Thornhill said: "I always believed the Liberal Democrats could win here in Watford but I am surprised, overwhelmed and absolutely humbled by the size of it.
"This is a clear mandate for change and change there will be."
