Police have seized crack cocaine and heroin and say they have a suspected dealer remanded following an operation targeting drug supply in Watford.

Officers spent two weeks last month carrying out raids at homes in the town and intercepting drug deals on the street.

Three warrants were carried out at the same time in Southsea Avenue, Harwoods Road, and Savanna Court, resulting in three arrests.

On June 11, officers spotted a Citroen C3 being driven in a suspicious manner and pulled it over in Pumphouse Crescent. After carrying out checks, they found the vehicle was on false number plates. After searching the car, another set of number plates was found alongside an imitation firearm.

On June 12, officers witnessed a suspected drug deal in Watford Field Road. Around 10 to 15 wraps of Class A drugs - heroin and crack-cocaine - was seized.

Police received a tip-off of a man acting suspiciously in Market Street in the town centre on June 17. Officers attended and seized 30 wraps of crack cocaine.

On June 19, police seized around £2,000 worth of Class A drugs after interrupting a drug deal in Exchange Road.

Three further raids were carried out at addresses where police suspect those living there are being cuckooed. This is where gangs take over the homes of vulnerable people and use it as a base for criminal activity. No arrests were made but safeguarding measures have been put in place for those believed to be vulnerable.

Watford Chief Inspector Matt Phillips said: “This focused two-week operation demonstrates that we will not tolerate drug and gang crime in Watford and I am very pleased with the results. We have one suspected drug dealer remanded and a number of people being investigated for suspected drug-related crime.

“I hope it sends out a strong message to those who choose to deal drugs in our town – if you are involved in criminality, we will catch up with you. You need to be looking over your shoulder, because we are watching.”
