Children were buzzing with excitement to see a home they created for insects in a flower show.

Students at Colnbrook School in Watford saw the bug house they created for the Hampton Court Flower Festival last week.

The display was part of the Hampton Court Garden Festival schools’ competition which invites primary schools to get creative and make a bug hotel, beehive, dormouse nest, bird box, butterfly or hedgehog house.

The children built the house using natural materials they found in their school garden over a series of weekly lessons.

At Hampton Court the children were able to meet celebrities Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan, Prue Leith, Bill Bailey and Keeley Hawes.

Head teacher Caroline Aplin said: “The children had the amazing opportunity to be part of a wonderful experience and celebrate their fantastic achievements.”
