A 57-year-old man has sustained seven broken ribs, some spinal damage, and a punctured lung after falling from a ladder.

Steven Muchmore was cleaning some windows at his home in Gills Hill Lane, Radlett, on Friday afternoon, when he fell to the ground suffering serious injuries.

His wife Tina heard a moan and rushed round to find her husband lying on the floor struggling to breathe.

She urgently called for help and rang 999 - within 16 minutes an air ambulance landed at nearby Battlers Green Farm.

Steven was flown to a hospital in London within seven minutes of taking off and his wife has paid tribute to the emergency services.

She said: "I ran to find my husband unconscious. Within 12 minutes, we had three ambulances and a few minutes later the air ambulance arrived. After all the paramedics amazing, calm work, they had Steven in hospital really quickly. I can't thank them enough for keeping me calm and the speediness of the treatment he got.

"I would also like to thank my neighbour who heard me shouting for help. Thankfully he was medically trained and kept an eye on Steve's condition until the ambulance crew came."

Steven sustained seven broken ribs, two broken bones to his spine, a punctured lung, some damage to his kidney, and 15 stitches to his head.

Neighbours in Radlett have sent messages of support to the couple after news of the accident spread on social media.

Tina added: "Thank you to everyone for their kind words. We are very grateful."
