An eight-year-old boy has sustained a serious leg injury after he was hit by a car on Monday.

An air ambulance landed in the Manor House grounds in Abbots Langley and the boy was later flown to hospital.

Emergency services were called to Kitter Green, off Gallows Hill Lane. They were called shortly after 4pm.

Police shut Gallows Hill Lane between Popes Road and near Adrian Road - although the road had reopened by 6.30pm.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and the MAGPAS air ambulance were called to Kitters Green Abbots Langley shortly after 4pm on Monday (July 29) following reports of a child injured in a road traffic collision.

"A boy was transported by air ambulance to Watford General Hospital with a serious leg injury."
