A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash in Watford.

Police were called just before 6.40pm last night (Friday) to Ascot Road, near to Morrisons.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was airlifted to hospital. 

Police said when they arrived, the car believed to be involved in the collision had left the scene.

Enquiries are now ongoing to trace the vehicle believed to be involved - no description of the vehicle has been given.

Jake Weston, who witnessed the response to the incident, said: "The police and ambulance crew did a fantastic job getting him out rapidly, controlling traffic and pedestrians.

"There were over a hundred people who came out of their homes to see the helicopter and it could of been absolute chaos but the police had it well controlled which was fantastic to see. I'm hoping the biker is going to be okay."

A Hertfordshire Constbaulory spokesperson said: “Officers attended to put road closures in place however on their arrival, the vehicle believed to be involved had left the scene.

“The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital via air ambulance. His family are aware.

“The road was re-opened and the motorbike recovered by 9pm. Enquiries are now ongoing to trace the vehicle believed to be involved.”
