A three-year-old boy has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after he was hit by a car.

Police are investigating a hit-and-run in Elstree Hill which happened shortly after 1.35pm.

Elstree Hill North is currently closed.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision in Elstree this afternoon (Monday 5 August).

"The incident occurred in Elstree Hill North, just after 1.35pm.

"A three-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene.

"The boy has been taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"Enquiries are being carried out to trace the vehicle involved and police are asking anyone with information which could assist to please come forward. It is believed it may have travelled in the direction of Watford Road.
