A couple who have given their garden a complete makeover will be featured in a BBC programme.

Frances Mason and her husband Trevor Barton, from St Albans, will appear in Gardeners' World, a TV show which gives viewers advice and tips for their gardens.

The episode will air tomorrow (Friday, August 9).

The couple turned their garden around within three weeks after they described it as "scruffy" when they moved in their house with small boarders and uninteresting plants.

Mrs Mason said being featured on the BBC came about when they entered their garden into a National Gardening Scheme initiative.

She said: "About three weeks ago, we called the NGS and asked if we could enter the garden into this open garden scheme.”

The National Gardening Scheme open garden project allows people to open up their private gardens to the public while raising money for charity.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

Mrs Mason and her husband’s garden raised £800 for caring charities such as Macmillan and Marie Curie, who are the scheme’s beneficiaries.

Shortly after this, the couple received a phone call from a representative from the National Gardening Scheme, asking if their details could be passed on to the BBC.

Mrs Mason said: “We were told that BBC had shown interest in our garden and initially wanted to use it for a segment with Nick Bailey about a specific type of flower we have.

“But then, once we told them the story of how we had transformed it, they decided to give us our own small spaces segment.”

Mrs Mason will be on the show explaining their garden’s story.

The episode will air tomorrow at 8.30pm on BBC Two.
