A man was taken to hospital after he was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance.

Police were called to the Market Street area of Watford shortly after 6pm yesterday (Tuesday).

It was in response to reports that a man aged in his 30s was sprayed in the face at an address in Francis Road.

Detectives are working to establish what the substance was but it is not believed to be acid.

Paramedics also attended and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. He was released from hospital last night after his injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

One arrest has been made in connection with the incident, which is being treated as 'isolated' with those involved believed to be known to each other.
