Fact: Hempstead Road in Watford is one of the busiest roads in south west Herts.
The current danger is to the pedestrians and cyclists as they walk or ride on the pedestrian pavements without due care.
As I understand it, cyclists are currently officially prohibited from riding on the pavements, but this is likely to change soon.
In order to protect those children and people as they pass my driveway entrance I installed a convex mirror so that I may see them as they approach, and hopefully so they may also see me as I exit, which unfortunately is unlikely as many wander or just ride past either head down plugged into or using their phones apparently unaware of any other person or vehicle etc rightfully using the same space.
Many are courteous and happily share the space with decent respect on the part of both parties.
However despite my intentions of trying to save conflict, my recently installed convex mirror was torn down and destroyed during the night of August 22.
When, not if, an accident does occur I will be held to blame because of some drunk or malevolent person’s stupid actions.
Perhaps we should be reminded of the dangers of not paying attention or looking at where people are going, when legally using the pathway.
