A project which aims to give as many gifts as possible to lonely and isolated elderly people is to be launched.

Home Instead Senior Care Watford is launching 'Smiles for Seniors - a gift-giving scheme calling on the community to donate gifts such as hand creams, socks, slippers, pamper sets and chocolates.

The gifts will then be wrapped and distributed throughout Watford.

Donna Flanagan, recruitment manager at Home Instead Watford, said: "Our clients have regular contact with their caregivers, whereas, many older people don’t have that regular contact. "This is why I want to collect lots of small gifts for the elderly to bring a smile to their face and to let them know that they are not alone."

On Saturday September 21, Home Instead will be hosting a stall at intu Watford on the upper mall outside M&S between 9am and 7pm.

This will be an opportunity for the public to hand over any gifts and presents.

They will also be raising money for the Alzheimer's Society.
