Armed police searched three teenagers in Watford town centre after reports a handgun was spotted.
At least two units rushed to the high street shortly after 3pm yesterday (Wednesday).
The initial report was that three males had been seen "acting suspiciously" and that one of them may have been in possession of a weapon - but no weapons were found.
A police spokesman said: "Due to the nature of the call, specialist officers attended and a search was carried out.
"Three 17-year-old boys were detained a short time later and searched.
"Nothing was found and the boys were released.
"Officers remained in the area following this to reassure members of the public."
South ARV's deployed overtly in Watford earlier today after reports of 3 males in possession of a hand gun. ARV officers located and detained the 3 males on the floor before they were searched & released after no items found. These reports are dealt with seriously. #TeamCsouth
