Leisure centres are working to increase awareness of baby CPR among parents and guardians.
The team at Watford Leisure Centre Central and Watford Leisure Centre Woodside, managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Watford Borough Council, are offering a free baby CPR workshop at Abbots Langley Library on Monday, October 14.
The session will teach adults the skills they need to save an infant’s life and how to respond in the event of a life-threatening situation.
CPR is a lifesaving action that is done when a baby’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped, which could happen after drowning, suffocation, choking or other injuries.
It is vital that the procedure is undertaken as soon as the guardian realises, as doing nothing could lead to irreversible damage or even death.
Gary Foley, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “CPR is such a vital life-saving skill and we’re delighted to be able to offer this free workshop to the community. Adults will learn all about preventing, recognising and responding to cardiac and breathing emergencies in infants.”
The session will take place from 11am to 1pm and those interested should contact ingrid.allen@hertfordshire.gov.uk to secure a place.
