A new app specific to Watford is being created bringing all of the town's transport options together as one.

The app aims to revolutionise the way people travel across the town, letting you choose the best transport option based on time, cost, and environmental impact.

The 'Travel Watford' app, which will be available on IOS and Android, allows you to enter the address you want to go, and the app will then provide all the information you need on how to get to that destination.

Transport options on the app include overground and underground trains from all Watford stations, bus routes, the new on-demand bus service, the bike hire scheme, taxis and minicabs, walking, cycling, and car clubs.

The app will also alert drivers looking for parking where they can find the nearest space to their destination, where to find electric vehicle charging facilities and will even let you pay for some forms of transport directly.

Users will also have access to real time travel information on Watford's roads and railways.

Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "The app will provide a 'one stop shop' so that people can see all their travel choices and options for getting round Watford at a glance.

"All they will have to do is tell the app where they want to go and it will do the rest.

"Knowing the quickest and most environmentally-friendly way to travel, will help reduce our reliance on the car for what can be very short journeys around town.

The app, developed by software company Molten Mouse, which has similar apps in York and West Yorkshire, will be available to download from January.

The app officially launches in March 2020.
