Hundreds gathered around to pay their respect for the fallen.

The Oxhey Village Environment Group (OVEG) gathered on Remembrance Sunday (November 10) for their service in Oxhey Green.

Conducted by Fr David Shepard, a short service took place where wreaths were laid by Jill Ibbott on behalf of her family whom were involved in the war, and Ivon Carnall the Honorary Secretary of Bushey and Oxhey care.

Around 150 people took part in a community walk through the streets of Oxhey to Watford Heath, supported by the police and marshals and nearly 300 people gathered for the main service.

Watford Observer:

The police, armed services, ward councillors, others affected by the war and other groups also came to pay their respects.

Wreaths were also laid by the 10th Oxhey Brownies, 4th Bushey Guides and 29th Beavers and Cubs during the service.

Andrew Filer, the organiser of the service, said: “I’m pleased to see so many people, young and old, walking together to take part in the service, with numbers growing year on year which reflects the importance of the occasion and spirit of the community.”

“Building on the community spirit, local shops and pubs have been working together to raise funds to support the poppy appeal, with the Rifle Volunteer inviting people in for hot chocolate, donating the proceeds.”

This was just one of the many Remembrance parades and services which took place across Watford, Three Rivers and Bushey.
