New bike racks have been installed outside a train station.

It comes after complaints, led by Watford man Tim Bracey, that bad storage outside Watford Met Station forced people to tie their bikes to railings outside the station.

And following an agreement with TFL for new cycle parking to be made available, Watford Borough Council installed new cycle stands with 34 spaces in two locations at the station.

They were installed earlier this month on November 12.

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “When I spoke to Tim, it was obvious that the current situation at Watford Met was unsustainable.

“If we are to try to make sure people in our town can travel more sustainably, we have got to make sure we have the infrastructure in place for this.

“I am really pleased we have got these new cycle stands installed, which should mean more people can cycle to the station and leave their bike easily and safely. I am determined to make sure Watford is a greener town.

“If anyone has any more suggestions about how we can do this, I would love to hear from them.”

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Park Ward Peter Jeffree added: “It’s great to see these new bike stands installed at the request of local residents.

“It’ll make a real difference to those who cycle into the station. I’d really encourage everyone using Watford Met Station to make sure these are well used.”
