Videos shown in court of suspected serial rapist Joseph McCann buying condoms at a fuel station and being chased by police have been released.

McCann, 34, is said to have attacked 11 women and children earlier this year in April and May.

It is alleged that his first victim, a woman in her 20s, had been walking home after a night out in Watford on April 21 when she was abducted and then raped in her home.

He then allegedly snatched two other women in their 20s in Chingford and Edgware on April 25 before raping them in a car.

A string of other alleged offences are said to have occurred in Lancashire and Greater Manchester on May 5, including the rape of a 71-year-old woman and the sexual assault of a girl.

The videos released by police are in relation to the May 5 events.

McCann allegedly stole a Fiat car belonging to the pensioner and used it to snatch two 14-year-old girls in Greater Manchester.

He was then caught on CCTV buying petrol and a pack of Durex condoms at a Shell garage while the girls waited in the car.

McCann was later spotted by PC Michael Jennings who was looking for a Fiat involved in a reported car-jacking.

The police officer saw two girls in the back and said one appeared "terrified" while the other raised a hand to attract attention, the Old Bailey heard.

A police chase ensued and the Fiat went the wrong way on a roundabout and crashed with a Mercedes, the court heard.

But it carried on, reaching speeds of up to 60mph in the 40mph zone, jurors heard.

Police later seemed to lose the Fiat on a housing estate.

Officers were heard in dash cam footage calling out to people in the street: "Which way, which way has he gone?"

The court heard that McCann then abandoned the car, leaving the two girls by the road.

That evening, McCann got a taxi from a restaurant in Stoke. But it was stopped by police and he was later arrested.

He has denied 37 charges, including rape, sexual assault, kidnap and false imprisonment.

The trial was adjourned until Thursday, when the prosecution is expected to close its case.
