Christmas may have just finished, but if you’re rushing to know what to do with your Christmas tree now, here is what you can do to recycle it.

As the Christmas festivities come to a close, there is the one obvious issue of dealing with the tree.

Here are the options around your area.

Watford

Watford Borough Council suggests for people in the area to recycle their real Christmas trees by leaving it in your green-lidded wheelie bin.

The tree must be removed from its pot or stand, with all tinsel and decorations taken off before placed into the bin.

If the tree is over six-feet tall, the council ask that the tree is cut in half – and if the bin is already too full then leave the tree beside the bin.

Collection days change over the Christmas holidays and will return to normal from January 13, 2020.

Here are the collection dates over the holidays:

  • If normally Wednesday 25 December collection is now on Friday December 27
  • If normally Thursday 26 December collection is now on Saturday December 28
  • If normally Friday 27 December collection is now on Monday December 30
  • If normally Monday 30 December collection is now on December 31

Three Rivers

Three Rivers District Council ask that real Christmas trees do not go inside your garden waste bin, and are instead left beside it, with the stand and decorations removed.

In January trees can be collected on your usual brown bin and green lidded collection day on the week January 13 to January 17, or January 27 to January 31.

Instead, at Kings Langley and Abbots Langley volunteers from the Hospice of St Francis will be driving around WD4 and WD5 postcodes on January 11 and January 12, 2020 collecting trees to recycle.

In return the hospice asks that people disposing the tree send donations for the collection, which will contribute to the over £5million the hospice needs every year to fund its free care.

The hospice helps 2,000 people around Hertfordshire with end-of-life care, support, therapy and workshops.

Trees can be left outside your home, without the need of you being home, and they will be chipped, recycled and turned into bio fertiliser for farms in and around local areas.

To arrange a collection from the hospice, visit their collection website and register here.

Dacorum

Dacorum Borough Council ask that real Christmas trees are brought to a chipping point on January 5, 2020, so that it can be turned into plant bedding.
