Not all commuters travelling on London Northwestern Railway trains will be entitled to a discount on their season tickets.

The train company confirmed its three per cent reduction to weekly, monthly and yearly season tickets, which offsets the fare rise, does not apply to passengers travelling between Bushey and London Euston stations.

Instead, these commuters will be paying 2.8 per cent more for their season tickets than in 2019.

This is because the prices are set by Transport for London (TfL) when travelling anywhere between the two stations – the permitted fare prices for these tickets are covered by London Overground.

And while pay-as-you-go fares for TfL services were frozen, prices for season tickets have continued to rise with the national average.

For London commuters in Bushey, an annual season ticket costs £2,640 – around £69 more than last year.

It is worth noting, however, that this is still significantly cheaper than a season ticket from surrounding stations - where the three per cent discount applies. A year-long season ticket from Kings Langley to London costs £3,337. And from Watford Junction, it costs £3,193.

One commuter slammed London Northwestern Railway on Twitter, saying that Bushey passengers should be entitled to the discount due to the “rubbish” service.

Dan Hall, from Oxhey, tweeted: “Why have ‘customers’ from Bushey been excluded from your three per cent compensation? We have had the same rubbish services as passengers from Watford. We now have less train, fewer carriages, and no compensation.”

The train company wrote in a tweet that it was not able to offer the compensation between Bushey and Euston “as it is not our decision to make”.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for London Northwestern Railway, said: "We are sorry that due to ticket-pricing processes outside of our control, we are unable to discount season tickets for our customers at some stations within the TfL area.

"We are currently finalising details of the further compensation measures we announced last month and will announce details of these in due course."
