Police are appealing for witnesses after a stolen van was abandoned on a busy dual carriageway.
Officers came across the vehicle parked in a live lane on the A41 approaching the Hunton Bridge roundabout, on the outskirts of Watford.
Police carried out a search of the van and discovered the electrics had been tampered with.
It meant the driver had been able to start the van without using keys.
Checks later revealed the van had been stolen from Romford in east London earlier this month.
The van has been recovered.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who may have seen who was in the vehicle or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward.
