Aldi has today revealed which date it will open its first ever store in Watford.

The eagerly-awaited budget supermarket opens to customers on Thursday February 6.

The popular chain has spent the last few months converting the former Toys'R'Us store in Century Park near Bushey Arches - and the 1.254sq metres of retail space is almost ready to be unveiled to the public.

The Aldi store, situated opposite Lidl which opened last year, will be open seven days a week.

It will be open from 8am to 10pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 11am-5pm on Sundays.

The first 30 customers through the door at 8am on February 6 will receive a complimentary bag of fresh and fruit vegetables from Aldi's Super 6 range.

To celebrate the store opening, store manager Krystal Kilgannon and her team will be joined by Team GB rower, Constantine Louloudis, to cut the ribbon on opening morning.

Ms Kilgannon said: "We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Dalton Way. It’s set to be a special day as we’ll be celebrating the opening of Aldi’s first store in Watford and having Olympic hero Constantine Louloudis join us will make it a morning to remember."

Team GB Rower, Louloudis, added: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store, it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its endless support of Team GB.”

Charities and foodbanks in Watford and the surrounding area are being urged to register with Neighbourly, a scheme which links businesses to charitable organisations in the community, in order to receive regular donations of surplus food from the community.

Any charities in the area that would like to partner up with the new Aldi store should email aldi@neighbourly.com.
