More jobs could be created as businesses from the other side of the world revealed their intentions to expand into Watford.

The new plans could see up to 15 business currently based in India expand to the town, with 10 jobs set to be created per company.

It comes as Watford and West Herts Chamber of Commerce continues to work with accountancy firm Prohal to promote international trade from India.

Chris Luff, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce in Watford, said: “These business potentially expanding to Watford will assist with economic growth and international trade.

“It enables small companies in the town to have greater connections and create jobs and enable the chamber membership to have greater connectivity internationally.”

The plans were revealed during an event at Vicarage Road last week, where business owners from India were taken on a tour of the stadium.

Mr Luff also gave a presentation on business opportunities in the East of England.

Mr Luff said the event was designed to show “what we have in Watford, including the amazing football club”.

Saumya Basu, CEO of the Silkoak Group in India, was at the event last week (Thursday, January 30). He said the group, which is an exporter of handcraft lifestyle solutions, is trying to “lead business into Watford”.

He said: “When people come over from India it is always about London.

“But there are other probable options such as Watford and we are looking at business expansion here. We decided to have it as part of our itinerary plan.

“We want to see how it goes. A lot of retailers coming into the UK market will find this to be a great opportunity for them.”

He added a number of jobs could be created in fabrics, textiles and hand crafted products.
