Police are investigating a report that a man touched a child's leg in an indoor play area in McDonald's.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has responded to the reports on social media about an incident that happened at the fast-food restaurant in Borehamwood yesterday (Wednesday).

A mother said on Facebook that her three-year-old son had been 'touched on the leg by a man who had been lying down with no child in the play area'.

Today, police said in a statement: "We are aware of some chat on social media regarding an incident in Borehamwood yesterday and would like to reassure you that we are investigating.

"We were called at 11.04am yesterday (Wednesday February 5) to reports that a man had touched a child on the leg in McDonald's, Shenley Road, Borehamwood.

"Officers attended the scene and spoke with the child and the man.

"Thorough enquiries were carried out, including CCTV, and officers are investigating the incident as a common assault.

"At no point did the man attempt to grab or follow the child.

"Any witnesses or anyone with information should call the non-emergency number 101 quoting ISR 247 of February 5."
