Oliver Dowden has been promoted as part of the Prime Minister's Cabinet reshuffle.

Hertsmere's MP has been appointed as Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).

He previously held the role of Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General - a position he took up last year.

According to the Government website, the department for DCMS helps to drive growth, enrich lives and promote Britain abroad.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has had a busy and dramatic day reshuffling his Cabinet.

A host of MP's have been sacked from ministerial roles while Sajid Javid sent shockwaves through Parliament after resigning as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The PA news agency reports that Boris Johnson ordered Mr Javid to fire his closest aides.

But allies of the former chancellor said Mr Javid refused to sack his team of special advisers, something that Mr Johnson made clear he would have to do if he wanted to remain in 11 Downing Street.

Mr Javid has been replaced by Rishi Sunak.
