A man has been flown to hospital after he was seriously injured at a building site.

Multiple emergency service units were called to Bedford Street, off St Albans Road, in Watford this morning.

A man aged in his 30s has been airlifted to hospital with injuries which police describe as serious but not life threatening.

The air ambulance landed in The Range car park and the retail park was temporarily closed.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident.

An East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called to St Albans Road at around 8.10am today following reports that a man had been injured.

"We sent an ambulance, a hazardous area response team vehicle and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

"Crews treated a male patient at the scene before he was airlifted to Kings College Hospital in London for further assessment and care.”

Hertfordshire County Council, which is responsible for the fire service, added: "We were called at 8.44am to St Albans Road, Watford.

"One fire engine from Garston Fire Station attended the scene and a casualty was passed into the care of the ambulance service."

Witnesses reported police cars parked up on both sides of St Albans Road, close to the entrance to The Range.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at around 9.20am this morning (Wednesday 19 February) as part of a multi-agency response to an incident at a building site in Bedford Street, Watford.

"Ambulance, fire and rescue and air ambulance service were also on the scene. The road was closed temporarily to allow access.

"A man, aged in his 30s, was injured and taken to hospital for treatment, with injuries that have been described as serious but not life threatening.

"The road closure was lifted just after 10.30am."
