Do you want your child to be more active?

There's the perfect opportunity for them to do just that, with a free community running event for children launching this weekend in Borehamwood.

Whether your a toddler or a teenager, or somewhere in between, youngsters are encouraged to put on their running gear and take to the paths and fields of our local parks - and you can run whatever distance you like or can manage.

There is one issue that needs solving - Hertsmere Borough Council, organisers of these events, say that volunteers are needed.

These volunteers are needed to help set up the events, as well as running with the children and marshalling.

Councillor Caroline Clapper, responsible for leisure and health, said: "It's great news that following our appeal for volunteers just under a month ago, the first Park Kids event is scheduled to happen in the borough this Saturday.

"Park Kids is a fantastic way of getting youngsters moving and a brilliant use of our parks and open spaces, but we need more people to help get it going and ensure its continued success.

"You don’t need to make a massive commitment – you can help as often or as little as you like, but your support will be greatly appreciated.

"Any child can get involved with Park Kids. It’s all about having fun, getting active and hopefully help to make physical activity, the habit of a lifetime." To find out more or to help volunteer for Park Kids go to www.parkkids.co.uk or email Park Kids programme manager Christopher Mc Shane christopher@kidsrunfree.co.uk or call 07590837166.

Park Kids, for children aged 16 or under, kicks off at Aberford Park from 9am this Saturday.

Further events are planned throughout the year, including in Meadow Park.

To take part participants must download the KRF Running App where they can record their child’s running, set personal running goals and receive rewards to celebrate achievements and keep them motivate.
