A television and film studios says people have been stopped from attending shows.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Elstree Studios in Borehamwood has announced this afternoon is has decided to stop the studios stages being used with audiences.

They are also banning the studio from being used for events.

Studios management says "robust measures" are required to reduce the risks for contracting Covid-19.

Roger Morris, managing director of Elstree Studios, said: "Whilst we are currently taking strict measures to safeguard the people working on site, we are fully aware that an outbreak at the Studios could at any time happen and this could mean that we close and quarantine the areas.

"A number of our clients have closed their offices on site for a number of weeks and we are taking advice daily."

This afternoon, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new measures to try and minimise the spread of the virus.

Mr Johnson has told everyone to to stop all 'non-essential social contact".

All people in the UK should avoid pubs, clubs and theatres, stop all non-essential contact and travel, and work from home if they can, Mr Johnson has said.

As part of the measures, anyone living in a household with somebody who has either a persistent cough or fever must now also isolate themselves for 14 days.

Today, the number of positive cases in the UK rose to 1,543 for coronavirus in the UK as of 9am on Monday, up from 1,372 at the same time on Sunday, the Department of Health said.

Officials said 44,105 people have been tested in the UK, of which 42,562 were confirmed negative and 1,543 were confirmed as positive.

At least 36 people in the UK to have contracted coronavirus have died.

As of 9am yesterday, 32 people had tested positive in Hertfordshire and one patient, a man in his 80s, died at Watford General Hospital.
