Demand has reportedly surged for new homes in Borehamwood after Sky announced plans to open a new 32-acre film and television studio centre in the town.

Bellway North London says it has reported an increase in sales and visitor levels at its Hertsmere Mews development in Shenley Road since Sky's December announcement.

The developer added that some buyers even camped out overnight outside the development to be first in the queue when the final homes were released for sale last week.

Borehamwood Times:

Greg Allsop, sales and marketing director for Bellway North London, said: “Borehamwood has long been an attractive option for house buyers, thanks to its excellent commuter links and the fact it is surrounded by open countryside.

"As you would expect, Hertsmere Mews has been a very popular development right from the word go, but it’s fair to say that Sky’s announcement has intensified the interest from potential purchasers attracted by the area’s growth potential.

"The proposed new Sky studio on Rowley Lane will be just five minutes away from Hertsmere Mews, and with BBC and Elstree studios well established in the area it will cement the town’s status as a film and broadcasting hub. The Evening Standard has even described Borehamwood as one of the areas to watch in 2020.

"The announcement is great news for those who have already purchased at Hertsmere Mews as it represents a vote of confidence in the area which we believe will have a positive long-term impact upon the housing market locally."

Borehamwood Times:

The Hertsmere Mews development is a mixture of houses and flats built on the site of the former Holmshill School.

The school became the upper site for Hertswood School, before the site was bought, enabling Hertswood to build a new state-of-the-art academy, which opened in September.

Meanwhile, a planning application for the Sky studios was officially submitted to Hertsmere Borough Council earlier this month.
