People across Watford have been showing their appreciation for the work of NHS staff through various displays.

The UK is currently on lockdown, with people only allowed out of their homes for limited reasons, including essential shopping and exercise.

But spirits remain high as families and businesses are thanking medical workers with elaborate window displays, drawings from school children, graffiti - and even grass cuttings.

The uplifting messages come after a mass clapping event last Thursday, where hundreds of thousands of people across the country stood outside on their doorsteps to clap for the NHS.

Here are some of the most creative ways people are thanking our key workers:

Farzana Chaudry, from North Watford, praised the roles played by key workers by knitting dolls for a window display.

Her creations included nurses, a doctor, a surgeon, a scientist, a service engineer, a paramedic, a cleaner and a greengrocer.

Her knitted designs are seen holding cards reminding everyone to stay at home.

A bridge over the M25 which used to have graffiti saying 'Give peas a chance' has now been painted over to say 'Thank you NHS'.

An admin for the bridge’s Facebook page Marc Summers said: "This is the greatest thing to happen to the bridge since it was messed with by Helch over 18 months ago.

"We are super happy and wish this to stay forever. The NHS deserve this as recognition for all their hard work."
