It is impossible not to read of the deaths of nurses like Sara Trollope and not feel humbled.

And it is deeply moving to know that her family wants to use some of the money people donated to help them to buy PPE for the hospital where she worked.

Nurses like Sara Trollope - a matron in a mental health trust - may not be in intensive care, but they still need face masks and other vital protective equipment to keep them safe.

The devastating thing about Covid-19 is that people may walk around for days not realising they are infectious. Some may never develop symptoms.

Other key workers like Sara are at work in shops, patrolling the streets as police officers, keeping us safe like firefighters, delivering post, caring for the elderly, keeping essential public services running.

Many of these workers are on low pay and cannot afford not to work - they have to go out, and not just for us.

Being able to work from home and not worry about your job is a luxury.

But there are things we can do. We can volunteer, we can donate to buy essential protective equipment and help the vulnerable.

And above all, we can keep ourselves indoors and out of the way so we do not become a risk to others and a burden on an already overworked NHS.

This is the greatest tribute we can pay to those putting their lives on the line keeping us safe.
