The Covid-19 lockdown is causing a lot of people a lot of problems but there are a few positive aspects.
It is great to see so many people out walking and cycling and enjoying the fresh air and exercise. The roads are delightfully traffic-free and residential streets have been returned to the people who live in them rather than being used as conduits for traffic.
Wildlife is flourishing and pollution levels all over the planet have dropped substantially, allowing the climate to start repairing itself.
It looks like the virus pandemic is finally being brought under control by the sterling efforts of governments and populations. It shows how people can win when faced with a crisis.
Hopefully the same efforts will be applied to the climate change problem before it becomes too late. Without global changes in lifestyle, climate change will become the next threat to mankind and it will need more than a temporary lockdown and a vaccine to fix.
