Emergency tree works have closed a major road in and out of Watford.
The sudden closure in a part of Hempstead Road came into force yesterday, and is set to remain in place for at least one more day.
Hertfordshire County Council has officially closed the road both ways between the entrance to The Grove and Courtlands Drive.
For drivers coming from the M25 or Hunton Bridge roundabout, there is no access through Hempstead Road, and anyone ignoring the warning signs will have no option but to turn around when they reach the closure, and return to where they started.
This is the scene at Hempstead Road at the junction with the Hunton Bridge roundabout. There is only access to The Grove and drivers should follow the diversion signs
According to one.network, the closure is only between the hours of 9.30am and 4pm, and the work by Ringway is set to be completed by tomorrow (Wednesday).
A spokesperson for the county council said yesterday: "Hempstead Road will be closed this week while Hertfordshire County Council carries out emergency safety critical tree works on the highway following contact from Watford Borough Council.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
Diversion signs have been put in place for drivers.
