DRIVE-THRU ice cream vans will be operating in Wimborne this weekend.

Ice Cream Bournemouth will have two vans parked off Julians Road between midday and 8pm on Saturday and Sunday.

And the news has caused quite a stir on Facebook with dozens of people vowing to use the service.

The company, run by Rob Ferrett, has been offering deliveries in recent weeks.

It has been advertising in advance which areas it will be operating in and taking orders on Facebook.

But demand has been so high they’ve been struggling to keep up.

Rob told the Daily Echo he will be offering ice cream trays for £5 each throughout the weekend.

Varieties will range from Lotus Biscoff or chocolate buttons to Squashies, Haribo and Skittles.

Customers will be able to place orders with staff when they arrive at the site, who will pass on the orders to people in the vans.

The ice cream trays will then be placed on a table for drivers to collect.

Only contactless payments will be accepted and customers will not be able to get out of their cars.

“At the start of lockdown we were not working and we had to think about what we were going to do” said Rob.

“We have been taking orders and delivering to homes, which has been nice to see children’s faces light up when they see us outside.

“Now the roads are getting busier it is getting harder to get around so we thought we would try something different this weekend.

In a post on Facebook, Rob told customers: “So, you have spoken, we have listened.

“We understand how difficult it has been for us to get to everyone since starting this service, slots are limited and there’s only a certain amount of hours in a day.

“Now lockdown restrictions are lifted slightly, why not you come to us?”

Rob is also offering a competition on Facebook for those who tell their friends about the event with the chance to win ice cream trays.

The vans will be parked in a field on the right before Julians Bridge for those travelling into Wimborne.
