SALON-owners have expressed their 'frustration' over new government guidelines allowing beauty parlours to reopen but with a number of limitations.

After Number 10 gave the greenlight for beauty salons, tattoo parlours and tanning salons to open from today, business-owners were 'disappointed' by a number of treatments still prohibited under government restrictions.

These include: facial, eyebrow and eyelash treatments, make-up application, dermaplaning, microblading, electrolysis on the face and more.

Michelle Robinson, owner of The Health and Beauty Clinic in Friars Lane, said it 'seems unfair' hairdressers are allowed to fully reopen offering all treatments when beauty salons cannot.

She said: "It's good news from government that we can reopen from today, but we can't do all our treatments.

"I don't understand the fact men can have their beard trimmed at the hairdressers but we can't offer electrolysis on the face.

"It seems a bit unfair when hairdressers are just as close.

"It's frustrating I can only offer limited treatments especially because 90 per cent of what I do on clients is electrolysis, which isn't allowed.

"I don't quite understand the reasoning of it all. It's hard on clients, they're desperate to come back."

Melody Forrest, who owns Harmony Rejuvenation in Ulverston, equally expressed her frustration at the new rules.

She said: "It's just crazy. The government should've said it was just nail salons allowed to open because that seems to be all we can offer.

"I actually posted on social media we were reopening then had to say we weren't because I just can't offer anything.

"I'm disappointed and frustrated. There's arguably more bacteria in nails than faces.

"I'm just going to sit tight and wait until we're given the full go ahead.

"There's been no clarity whatsoever, nothing's been black or white."
