Watford Museum is preparing to welcome visitors back for the first time tomorrow since it was forced to close its doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The museum, in High Street, will reopen at 10am on Saturday, but anyone who would like to visit is asked to book in advance for a timed slot. This can be done by calling 01923 232297 or email info@watfordmuseum.org.uk.

The museum is limiting visiting times to Saturday only to start with and information will also be collected for 21 days in line with NHS Track and Trace guidelines.

Special safety measures have been put in place to ensure social distancing and to protect visitors and to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Protecting our town's heritage is so important and so I am delighted we have been able to reopening our fantastic museum.

"I would encourage everyone visiting our museum to stay safe and consider others whilst finding out more about our town's history.”

In addition to a number of hand sanitising stations, special deep-cleaning arrangements have been put in place.

Visitors should note that some objects and exhibitions have been temporarily removed and special events have been put on hold. Not every gallery may be accessible - check before visiting to find out what is open.

Visitors will be asked to wear a face covering on their visit, or masks will be provided.

Telling the story of Watford past and present, the museum has displays of local history, industry and archaeology.

These include Watford at War, print and brewing and a display on Watford Football Club, which includes some fabulous Elton John memorabilia.
