Watford High Street was partially cordoned off this morning after a smoke canister went off in a security van.
Two fire engines, police, and an ambulance were called to the shopping street at around 11.15am.
It was following reports that an alarm had gone off in a G4S security van which was parked outside Natwest, near the junction of Market Street.
Initially, police were called to the van, with the fire service receiving a call minutes later when the van began smoking.
Fire crews blocked off the High Street and put a cordon in place, before using a fan to clear the smoke.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11.21am to High Street, Watford, after a ‘smoke cloak’ cannister was activated in a security van.
"Nobody was trapped in the vehicle and crews attended from Watford and Hemel Hempstead. They used a fan to clear the smoke. The incident closed at 11.44am."

Hertfordshire Constabulary added: "Police were called at around 11.15am on Thursday August 6 to report that a security van alarm was sounding and that a smoke cannister had gone off inside.
"Officers attended and it was discovered to be a fault with the vehicle; there were no suspicious circumstances."
