What does Vicarage Road mean to you? What are your memories of games at the stadium? What have you collected over the years from the ground? Watford FC want to hear your recollections and see what Hornets memorabilia is in your drawers and cupboards as the build up begins to celebrating the club’s centenary at Vicarage Road.
‘The Brewers’, as the Hornets were known then, played their first game at their current home ground on August 30, 1922 when they faced Millwall in a Division Three South match.
Although the centenary of this first match is still almost two years away, a group of supporters are planning a number of events and activities to celebrate this anniversary in conjunction with the club and are asking fans to contribute memories and items by emailing vic100@watfordfc.com
Whether it be recollections of your first game at the ground, being a ballboy or ball girl, to showing bits of terracing or old signs you may have, films and videos or even non-football items from when Vicarage Road also housed a dog track for example, the club wants to hear from you.
The plan is to build a collection of resources about the stadium through the years and use this in various ways including a book, a documentary or film and an exhibition at Watford Museum.
Once you have been in touch and told Watford what the Vic means to you and what items you’d like to share via vic100@watfordfc.com or by post, the club may then arrange an audio or video interview or may ask to scan pictures and photograph objects.
The Hornets have stated these will then be added to a memory bank with your name attributed as the source. The club may also wish to borrow some objects for the museum exhibition.
