BRITISH Airways’ suspension of short-haul flights to and from Gatwick is set to continue.

The airline was forced to stop all flights from the airport in March after the coronavirus pandemic halted its services.

Some of BA’s long-haul routes made a return to the airport on July 18 with services to Barbados, Bermuda, St Lucia, Kingston and Antigua reinstated.

But the airline made the move to fly all short-haul flights from Heathrow instead of Gatwick, with the routes expected to return to the latter in September.

Now, British Airways has confirmed that the majority of short-haul flights are unlikely to return to Gatwick until March next year at the earliest as demand remains far below pre-Covid levels.

A British Airways spokeswoman said: “Until March 2021, most of our short-haul flights will continue to operate from Heathrow.

“This enables us to ensure a smooth, uninterrupted and efficient operation across our business at a time when demand is yet to return and international travel restrictions remain in place.

“We’re proactively letting customers know and recommend they check their booking on ba.com prior to travel.”
