Police issued a warning earlier today (September 24) after several strange devices thought to be designed to harm animals were found at Southmere Lake in Thamesmead.

Images of the devices, which contained chaotic arrangements of thread stuck with what appeared to be food of some kind, were posted by police to the Twitter microblogging site.

A spokesperson for Greenwich Met Police said they had been informed about the devices via the force's Wildlife Crime Unit.

"The Wildlife Crime Unit has received a report re reels of thread with food found in a horse field near Southmere lake in Thamesmead," they said in a Tweet published earlier today.

It was not said whether the devices and their location in a horse field were related.

However, the spokesperson added that "any attempt to kill/injure wildlife in this manner is illegal."

Greenwich MPS are now appealing for information about what happened, and urging anyone with info to call 101 quoting ref RYRT000386076.
