Coronavirus infection rates continue to soar across London with 23 boroughs now above 100 cases per 100,000 residents.

The rate of infection has risen in all but five boroughs and shows no sign of slowing.

London moved into Tier 2 restrictions on Saturday but the new rules outlawing household mixing indoors have not been in place long enough to judge their affect.

Ealing has recorded the highest rate of infection, posting 516 new lab-confirmed cases between October 10 – 17 (the latest available accurate date) at a rate of 151 per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (October 18-21) is not included as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

Enfield experienced the sharpest rise of all London boroughs, leaping from 89.9 cases per 100,000 (300 infections) in the seven days to October 10 to 130.6 (437 infections).

In Redbridge, the rate of infection is still climbing, albeit at a slower pace than previously.

The east London borough reported 408 new infections, at a rate of 133.7, up from the 381 (at a rate of 124.8) the week prior.

Waltham Forest sits at the edge of the 100 cases per mark. There were 274 new cases confirmed in the seven days to October 17 at a rate of 98.9.

The week before the borough posted 266 cases at a rate of 96.

The lowest rate of infection can be found in Bexley, where there were 69.7 cases per 100,000 people (173 new infections).

Barnet, Brent, Haringey, Harrow and Lewisham are the only five boroughs to record lower rates of infection compared to the week before.

The remaining boroughs below 100 cases per 100,000 people are: Bexley, Brent, Bromley, Croydon, Sutton, Waltham Forest, Greenwich, Lewisham, and Southwark.
